Coca-Cola Beverages Florida Volunteers at Metropolitan Ministries
January 10 2018
Coca-Cola Beverages Florida knows that part of our license to do business on a local level is to take care of the community in which we function. One of the ways we do this is by assisting organizations that empower community members. Metropolitan Ministries is a non-profit organization that provides “services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity and instill self-sufficiency” for those in the local Tampa community that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Since our inception in 2015, Coke Florida has been a proud partner of Metropolitan Ministries.
On January 10th, our Customer Relations Team kicked off the new year by volunteering at Metropolitan Ministries. The 27 Coke Florida associates were divided in groups and given different tasks. Some volunteered in the kitchen, where they prepared hot meals for the families that would show up later. Over the years, Metropolitan Ministries has become known for their high-quality menu items and even sell sandwiches at Tampa International Airport! Every week, they feed about 2500 people who struggle with food insecurity.
Other volunteers were tasked with mopping the floor and wiping down tables for the families coming to eat. They also cleaned the recycle area and swept the parking lot.
Meanwhile, other volunteers helped in the clothing area and helped one of the residents put an outfit together for an upcoming job interview. One of our associates who volunteered, Wendy Collins-Glover, said that “It was a very humbling experience for all of us. It was a great experience to help others. Even if we make a difference in one person’s life that’s well worth it!”
Volunteering at organizations such as Metropolitan Ministries is one of the simplest ways to give back to our community. To learn more about how you can help make a difference in our community, visit the Metropolitan Ministries website.
